Dr Muddassir Siddiqui is uniquely qualified both as a Sharia scholar and as a U.S. trained attorney. Dr Siddiqui has Higher License (al-ijazah al-‘aliyah) from the Sharia College of the Islamic University of Madinah Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia. He has studied law at the University of London, Temple University Law Centre, Harvard Law School and Chicago Kent College of Law.
Dr Siddiqui has formerly served as the member of the AAOIFI Sharia Board; Research Fellow at the International Sharia Research Academy for Islamic Finance, in Malaysia; Senior Advisor to the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) at the United States Department of Commerce. He advised CLDP on legislative and judicial capacity building initiatives in the GCC, Afghanistan and Pakistan; served as arbitrator in Dubai, ruling on controversies involving Islamic finance institutions and their clients; served as Internal Sharia Supervisor of Islamic Development Bank and he was a Partner and Head of Islamic Finance-Middle East in Dubai for SNR Denton (Dentons) a major global law firm with extensive experience in advising on transactions involving Sharia-compliant financing.
Currently, Dr Siddiqui is a member of the Fiqh Council of North America, serves as expert advisor to law firms and their clients in litigations and controversies pending before courts and arbitration tribunals in the US and UK on issues involving Saudi Sharia laws and practices as well as Islamic finance, and serves on the Sharia Supervisory Boards and advisor of Islamic financial institutions.
